VENEZUELAN REFUGEES CRISIS IN RORAIMA
The economic and social crisis that Venezuela is going through has motivated the immigration of more than 2 million people from 2016 to August 2018. About 128,000 of these refugees seek shelter in Brazil, and the gateway of these immigrants to the country is the poor and isolated state of Roraima. Without jobs and structure to receive this migratory flow, cities like Boa Vista and Pacaraima became the scene of the immigrant's drama who end up sleeping in the streets, and subject to xenophobic attacks by Brazilians, like the one when 1,200 Venezuelans were expelled from the center of Pacaraima and had their belongings burned.
